Meet Grace
Grace Meng represents New York’s 6th Congressional District located in Queens, New York. She was born and raised in Queens as the daughter of immigrants and has never forgotten where she came from or who she fights for.
As a child growing up in the most diverse county in America, Grace believes that every person deserves a seat at the table. Whether young or old, rich or poor, she believes every voice deserves to be heard. That conviction prompted Grace to begin her professional career as a public interest lawyer before serving two terms in the New York State Assembly. Grace has represented NY-06 in Congress since 2013. She is the first and only Asian American Member of Congress from New York State.
Now, in her sixth term in Congress, Grace continues to advocate for inclusive policies that benefit the vulnerable and the often overlooked. As New York’s senior member and Vice Ranking Member on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, she regularly fights for federal programs that improve the lives of working and middle-class families. During her time in Congress, Grace has passed numerous pieces of bipartisan legislation, and has been ranked one of the most effective legislators in the Democratic party. Grace serves as the First Vice-Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, a Vice-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, and a Co-Chair of the House Bipartisan Taskforce for Combatting Antisemitism. She also serves as Chair of ASPIRE PAC, the political arm of AANHPI Members of Congress. From 2017 to 2020, Grace proudly served as a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, where she worked alongside state parties and grassroots leaders to support Democratic wins and improve outreach to groups too often ignored by both parties.
Grace represents the only congressional district located entirely in Queens, New York, where she continues to live with her husband, Wayne, a professor, and their two sons. She attended New York City public schools, including Stuyvesant High School, received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, and earned her law degree from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
