The leaders of all the most prominent women’s organizations across the country have endorsed Grace Meng’s historic candidacy for Congress. Grace has been endorsed by Emily’s List, the political action committees of the NYS National Organization for Women (NOW) and National NOW, NARAL Pro-Choice NY and NARAL Pro-Choice America, and the Women’s Campaign Fund. These organizations endorsed Grace because she will be a fighter for women’s rights, and hailed her as the only candidate who could be counted on to advocate for women’s access to comprehensive health care, equal pay for equal work, helping women-owned small businesses prosper and protecting women from violence.
“I am incredibly proud and honored to have the support of the leading women’s organizations from across the country,” Grace said. “The women that make up these groups are on the frontlines everyday fighting to protect safe and affordable access to health care, fighting for fair and equal wages and working to elect more women to office at every level of government. While women represent over half of America’s population, we make up only 17 percent of Congress. That needs to change, and when elected I will make sure that in Washington our voices are heard loud and clear on the issues that matter most to us.”
“This past Congressional session, the House has been vicious in its attacks on women’s access to basic health care and freedom to make personal decisions about our reproductive lives. NARAL Pro-Choice New York is proud to endorse Grace Meng, who promises to not only fight back against those attacks, but bring New York’s pro-choice values to the halls of Congress. Just as she’s stood up for the women of New York in the Assembly, Grace will stand up for women across America as a U.S. Representative,” said Andrea Miller, President of NARAL Pro-Choice New York.
Stephanie Schriock of Emily’s List said, “Grace Meng is a working mother who never forgets who she’s fighting for – working families in NYC. For the last two years, women throughout the country have watched as the right-wing republican controlled House has waged a war on their rights and opportunities – from trying to eliminate social security to taking away basic health care access. The 1.6 million member EMILY’s List community stands strong to bring Grace’s commitment to women and families and her ability to get things done to the House where we desperately need her.”
“The political action committees of BQNOW, NOW-NYS and National NOW stand firmly behind Grace Meng for Congress. Grace actively supports NOW’s core issues: Equality for all women; elimination of discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools and the justice system; securing abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; ending all forms of violence against women; eradicating racism, sexism and homophobia; and promoting equality and justice in our society. Grace was the lead sponsor, actively promoting and passing the NYS Assembly’s Pay Equity legislation. She is a pragmatist: working with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass other important legislation, something we desperately need in Congress these days” said Sherry Rogers of Brooklyn-Queens NOW PAC.
“WCF is proud to stand with Assemblywoman Grace Meng in her race for the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Siobhan Bennett, President/CEO of the Women’s Campaign Fund. “At a time when women’s health is under siege nationwide, every seat counts. Councilman Dan Halloran’s anti-choice views are out of sync with this district, and we simply cannot allow the anti-choice movement to capture this seat. With her track record as a strong advocate for the women and their families of New York, Grace Meng is the best candidate to represent the 6th congressional district.”
If elected, Grace would be the first woman to represent New York’s 6th Congressional district and the first to represent central Queens in Congress since Geraldine Ferraro in the early 1980s.
