The Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens (LGDCQ) enthusiastically endorses Assemblywoman Grace Meng for Congress in the newly drawn 6th Congressional District, announced club President Michael Mallon and co-founder City Councilman Danny Dromm. The Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens is the only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender independent Democratic club in the borough and has an active membership of nearly 200. The LGDCQ was founded to increase the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities in the political arenas of Queens, New York City, New York State and the nation.
Club President Michael Mallon stated, “The Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens is pleased to endorse Grace Meng for Congress. Grace is one of the most honest and forthright elected officials in Queens, and she has proven to be a consensus-builder in Albany. We have full confidence in Grace’s ability and desire to advance LGBT rights on a national stage.” Councilman Dromm included, “Grace has a proven capacity to build bridges, both in Queens and Albany. She has done so in the service of LGBT causes with great courage and aplomb. As a state legislator, Grace has pursued equal rights and justice for all in her diverse district; as a congresswoman, she will do the same.” Assemblywoman Meng said, “I am very pleased to receive the endorsement of The Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens, particularly in light of the historic events of this past year. Our success in New York is a harbinger of what’s to come in the country. In Washington I will fight to advance LGBT rights and repeal DOMA and look forward to continuing to work with both The Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens and Councilman Dromm in pursuit of these goals.”
